Brand new from 40k (though i bought BT 3rd ed as a little kid bc it looked cool). I love that all the modifiers and special abilities are tied to the build of the mech, and i dont have to worry about psykers and witchery, weird special rules and strategems. I only played alpha strike so far, and I know the full on BT is way more crunchy... But I had way more fun learning this than 40k.

I received the Proliferation Cycle Box as well as the starter box as a gift and am not sure what time period they belong to or what house they belong to if any.

I still don't know why the Archer is better loved than the catapult. Isn't the archer just a less mobile catapult with arms?

The coolest thing my local group did was put a merc company together based on the justice league from DC comics. Each mech was based on a superhero and used tech to simulate their powers but also their weaknesses. Good times were had by all.

I really love the avatar and the sunder. Good Swiss army knife guys for my money. But i usually get outperformed by a specialist mech. Also the bushwacker because (like many PC folks) was my first mech, but same issues as above.

There really aren't any "good" factions in Battletech, just ones that are less bad than others. I generally support Comstar simply because they have an incredibly useful service and they are providing it to the rest of the galaxy. They're just trying to keep the lines of communication open. (and it TOTALLY ISN'T because you can just do a wash in white and say you are done painting. That has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with it)

I made Liao death commando mechs as my first faction. Mechs i can't add ti Liao become Wolf Dragon's Widow company's mechs.

My favorite light Meck from that era is the Firestarter and it's vcreations.And I love that Enforcer in the medium mech bracket along with the Centurion and I also love that Valkyrie.

Been playing 40k, LotR etc and by pure accident found your channel - you are going to cost me more hard earned cash. Just watching this video has me hooked. No bi-annual re-purchase of entire Armies along with Rule Books, Codexs, etc etc - just a lot of fun. Ordered a Starter Box and now deciding (with your help) on a faction to expand my game. BTW - I 3D printed a number of 6mm soldiers for an 'Althoids Tin" OPR skirmish game I made up to keep me busy through Cancer Treatments - they will be my Ground Force in Battletech. I love the rough and tumbledown look of those mechs. What would be cool is to actually stat them out WYSIWYG. If the mech has a hand weapon, then the Mech gets the Melee weapon Special ability. The pilot would no doubt have a specific skill with that Melee weapon. Those all could be part of a poor world's "Militia" out in the Periphery or even within one of the great houses planets. I got the Snord's Irregulars Merc box set and bought an extra Rifleman Frankenmech so that I could do both versions of it. I've done some modification on shorty Sneed's version in that I took an old WH40K axe that I had in my bits box and put it in the Archer hand on it. I gave Rhonda Snord's Highlander a Sword. Both will have the Melee Special added to their mech stats. I plan on getting another Black Knight and will be putting a sword in it's Left hand and will likely scratch build large Shoulder Pauldrons for it or something or maybe a shield.

I've been playing Battletech since it came out. I wasn't aware until recently that people picked factions. We've always just played the game. Also, that paint job on the Marauder at about 4:00 is really sweet.

I just saw the mech with the sombrero. Mexican mech. Immediate like. I'm actually interested in Frankenmechs generally, despite being absolutely new to all of this as of writing. I'm unsure if I can kind of mix and match bits within the rules, but I would absolutely love to do that at some point even if I can't. I feel like the concept has so much potential, and I would love to explore it. The problem is going to be getting spare bits, as I don't own a 3d printer. Problems for later. I used to main Orkz for 40k, so I can improvise.

Recently, and sadly, all of them. I've fallen out of love with the game. The lore is depressing for me. the mech game doesn't gel well with my learning disabilities and autism. and I never liked the aesthetic designs to begin with.

I tend to swap out the arm mounted SRM-4 on the Commando with an LRM-5. At least you can harass at long range .Remove its chest SRM-6 and replace with a second LRM-5 .Use the remaining ton for more armor.

I'm considering getting back into Battletech. Not crazy about the selection of mechs available though . I would like to play as the Taurian Concordat or the Brotherhood of Randis ,which tend to use simpler ,more reliable mechs ,often with vehicles as fire support . But so far,it's been heavier ,more costly machines which are not really common in the periphery Haven't seen any vehicles yet either.

Great video! First off: Liao have Indian ifluences aswell, Kurita have Arabs, Steiner have Scotish and Marik have Spanish descendants, FRR is Nordics. So❗️Imho. A few ways to structure your choices into sections to make it more clear, at least I do ( my favorite factions in brackets ): ❗️IS: In-faction Loyalist/ Loyal faction mercenary company. (FRR/ GBDominion/ Rasalhague Dominion, Capellan Federation) ❗️Clan: Bloodied in-clan bred member/ Clan loyal merc company.( Clan Ghost Bear/ CGB Dominion turns/ Rasalhague Dominion, Clan Snow Raven/ Raven Alliance, Clan Wolf/ Wolf Empire, Clan Star Adder, Clan Coyote ) ❗️Periphery ( Aurigan Coalition )/ Deep periphery ( Jarnfolk )/ even Lawless ( pirates, bandits ) ❗️For all the above timeframe/ Era is important to keep authencity. Though of course you can homebrew your own Lance, Star, pilots etc if not using established. Also having color schemes of your own but use a streak of color/ symbol+own symbol for that IS/ Clan/ Periphery+Deep periphery faction you are in-faction ( born/ bred in that faction ) or as loyal merc company to. Faction Affectionate so to speak😁 Lastly... ❗️Having a merc company as a sub merc group of a larger existing mercenary faction or completely as your own independent one/ freelance. No loyality to any Clan, IS, Periphery faction. Just have at it with color schemes and a bunch of mechs with some from each Era/ faction making you flexible at any BT war gaming/ rpg table ☕️👏 This is all kinda Game of Thrones in spaaace 😁 And from me aswell, welcome all new Battletech fans!🥳🍻

Woohii.. First off, looks. Im NOT fond of and dosent look good regarding humanoid mechs with avian/ chicken legs or fuselage/ long torsos on humanoid legs! The IS Jenner, Sagittaire and Clan Dire Raven etc. SO! Well, Im naturally intrigued and cheer on the underdog and scapegoated mechs. Especially those with bad beginning/ eatly production era variants, that gets used against them for whatever braindead spite. I try to remember some examples... For me its the Flea, Raven Shadowhawk, Jagermech, Banshee on the IS Battlemech side. Tenchi, Raptor for IS Omnimechs. Clan Omnimech side: Kit Fox/ Ullr, Nova/ Blackhawk, Summoner/ Tor, Warhawk/ Masakari, Dire Wolf/ Daishi. Clan Battlemechs: Timber Wolf mk III. Some of the latter might be more popular than I feared though. Im sure theres more I can think of. But thats it for now.

Mercenary, You don't need to worry about IS factions, you dont need to worry about adding a clan mech. JUST go ham on whatever you like, and can fit in via point requirements. :D

Free Worlds' 4th Expeditionary Armored Cavalry. "Hell's Regulars," Have existed since at least the 2nd Succession War and up to the Jihad, has a reputation as a bad luck regiment that is respected for its grit and tenacity. Black head/canopy and shoulders, red arms and torso, white legs.

Funnily enough, getting into 2nd ed 40k is what got me into Battletech.
